What is Agronomy?
Agronomy is the study of crops and soils.
Its applications vary from crop production and farm management to ecological
conservation or reclamation of plant and soil systems.
What is the Agronomy Club?
The Agronomy Club
is a gathering together of students with similar interests for the purpose
of learning about the agricultural industry and its advancements while
enhancing social interaction. The Agronomy Club provides a chance
for students to take an active part in their department through fund-raising
projects, social events, and scholastic activities. As an active
member of the Student Activities Section of the American Society of Agronomy
(SAS-ASA), the CSU Agronomy Club travels to the National and Regional meeting
to participate in various contests and activities.
Who can join the Agronomy Club?
Any faculty, staff,
graduate, or undergraduate student interested in the agricultural industry
is welcome to become active and participate in the Agronomy Club.
Does it cost anything to join?
There is a $10.00 dues/association
fee for an individual to become a member of the Agronomy Club. This fee also activates membership into the American Society of Agronomy national organization. However,
everyone is invited to attend the meetings. On occasion, there are other
out-of-pocket expenses for individuals participating in the National/Regional
Meetings or for other special activities. Fundraising efforts
help to defray the costs of these special events.
How does one join the Agronomy
Club?
Simply begin attending the meetings and becoming
active in the scheduled events.
Where are Meetings held
and How Often?
The meetings/activities/events are generally held
in the Plant Science Building on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. unless the
time and location are otherwise announced.
What are the activities at the
weekly meetings?
The Agronomy Club
will often have guest speakers from local ag industries; tour local agricultural
businesses; assemble fundraising items: sunflower
seed packets, plant mounts, seed packets; plan and participate in sponsored
events such as Casino Night, Chili Cook-off, Bowling Night, Spring Picnic,
Ag Adventure for Youth; and discuss plans for future meetings.
How long are the meetings?
The meetings average
1-2 hours depending upon the activity.
