CHILI COOK-OFF

Generally held the 2nd/3rd Thursday of the Fall semester at the Monfort Quad outside of the Plant Science Building. Faculty, Staff, and Students compete with a panel of 3 judges to determine who makes the best chili in the Department. The Chili Cook-Off provides opportunity for new students, faculty, staff, and fellow peers to mingle and get to know one another outside of class and the busy-ness of the work day. It is a lot of fun and a great kick-off to the new school year.

TAILGATE PARTIES

Fall semester wouldn't be the same without cheering on the CSU Rams football team at Hughes Stadium and tailgate parties are just the way to go! BBQing, eating, and hanging out with fellow peers and other peer organizations prior to the home football games is a fun way to show team spirit for both the Agronomy Club and the CSU Rams!

BOWLING TOURNAMENT

Food & fun, food & fun, did you catch that, food & fun? Pointing out a depicting pattern, the Ag Club Sponsored Events inevitably include food & fun and the Bowling Tournament is no exception. A long standing rivaly between faculty/staff and students makes the tournament a "rolling" experience wherein pizza is generally a staple item. Admittedly, the students usually win hands down and makes everyone wonder if the faculty/staff are ever going to break their 15 year losing streak!?!

CASINO NIGHT

Welcome to Vegas in Colorado! Well, not really, but it's still a fun evening. Students, faculty, and staff gather to enjoy an evening of roulette, blackjack, and poker. Donated prizes make for an interesting auction at the end of the night, too. Don't lose that coffee mug for it cost $10,000 at the Agronomy Club Casino night!

SPRING PICNIC

The Chili Cook-Off kicks off the beginning of the school year but the Spring Picnic will close it with the opportunity for the new officers for the upcoming year to be introduced and the former officers to bid adieu. The food is excellent as everyone brings either a salad, dessert, or main dish to share.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Guest speakers are one of the main highlights of the Agronomy Club that exposes students to the agricultural industry outside of the classroom. Not only are industry representatives brought onto campus for sharing information about their work in this broad profession but sometimes students go to them. Sometimes students will go on industry tours in and around Fort Collins thus exposing them to the agricultural aspects associated with the various businesses.

These industry representatives provide a wealth of information including updates on the progression of new technology that affects the profession. They also provide insight as to the direction that the agricultural industry is heading and are a valuable resource for the students, including becoming a network for the students interested in their specific area of focus.

Opening doors to students' minds and prospective job opportunities is exactly what guest speakers provide for students. Hearing directly from those in the industry is one of the best learning tools outside of the classroom, next to internship participation, of course, where students gain direct, hands-on experience.
